23RD ANNUAL COMPTON VETERANS STAND DOWN — STANDING TOGETHER FOR THOSE WHO SERVED
September 26–28, 2026 — Compton, California
For three days in Compton, veterans were the center of attention.
The 23rd Annual Compton Veterans Stand Down brought veterans, their families, service organizations, government agencies, healthcare professionals, volunteers and community supporters together at the Compton Housing Authority campus with a simple purpose:
Serve those who served us.
For For the Love of Our Veterans, being part of this annual gathering is especially meaningful because the Stand Down reflects what our organization believes veteran support should look like — personal, accessible, respectful and connected to real assistance.
Veterans should never have to wonder whether their service has been forgotten. The Stand Down is one way our community answers that question.
THREE DAYS FOR OUR VETERANS
A Veterans Stand Down is different from an ordinary community resource fair. It creates a place where veterans can spend time among fellow veterans while having direct access to people and organizations that understand the challenges they may be facing.
Over the three-day gathering, veterans and their families could connect with assistance involving healthcare, behavioral health, housing, veterans benefits, Social Security, employment, legal matters, transportation, chiropractic and wellness services, clothing, personal care and other essential needs.
The event's Resource Village brought together dozens of veteran organizations, government agencies, healthcare providers, nonprofits, community organizations and specialized professionals.
Having these resources together in one location is particularly valuable for veterans who might otherwise have to contact multiple offices, agencies and organizations to address benefits, housing, healthcare, employment or other needs.
At the Stand Down, veterans could speak directly with knowledgeable representatives, explain their circumstances, ask questions, learn what assistance might be available and, in many cases, begin the process of obtaining that assistance.
THE SIMPLE THINGS MATTER TOO
Not every meaningful part of a Veterans Stand Down takes place at a resource table.
Sharing a meal, talking with fellow veterans, getting a haircut or a massage, taking a shower, receiving fresh clothing and a new pair of shoes, or simply having someone willing to sit down and listen are all part of the experience.
Food, clothing, hygiene supplies and other necessities were available throughout the Stand Down, along with meals and opportunities for veterans and their families to relax, socialize and spend time together.
These may seem like simple things, but they are an important part of what a Stand Down is intended to provide: a welcoming place where veterans are treated with dignity, cared for and surrounded by people who appreciate their service.
WATCH: MOMENTS FROM THE 23RD ANNUAL COMPTON VETERANS STAND DOWN
The Compton Chamber of Commerce, the lead organization coordinating and managing the 23rd Annual Compton Veterans Stand Down, created this video to capture brief moments from the opening ceremony, participating organizations and resource booths, healthcare and personal-care services, food distribution, media coverage, and a few scenes from throughout the Stand Down.
The video offers a glimpse of the veterans, volunteers, service providers and community supporters who participated over the three days. A broader collection of photographs from the Stand Down will document many more of the people and activities that were part of this year's event.
IT TAKES A COMMUNITY TO CREATE A STAND DOWN
An undertaking of this size cannot happen through the work of one organization.
For the Love of Our Veterans extends its sincere appreciation to the Compton Chamber of Commerce, City of Compton, Compton Housing Authority, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as the many veteran organizations, government agencies, healthcare and wellness providers, nonprofits, businesses, community organizations and individual supporters who participated.

Special thanks also go to the City of Compton and Compton College for helping make tents available for participating organizations and service providers, creating the Resource Village where veterans could conveniently move among the many resources assembled for them.
The combined participation of these organizations made it possible to provide a broad range of services and assistance in one location and was indispensable to carrying out the 23rd Annual Compton Veterans Stand Down.
TO EVERY DONOR AND SUPPORTER — THANK YOU
The generosity surrounding the Stand Down could be seen in the food, prepared meals, clothing, hygiene products, supplies, equipment and other necessities contributed for veterans and their families.
These contributions came from businesses, organizations, families and individuals who wanted to provide practical support to the veterans attending the event.
For the Love of Our Veterans is deeply grateful to everyone who contributed, whether through financial support, food and clothing, equipment, supplies or other assistance that helped make the Stand Down possible.
TO OUR VOLUNTEERS — THANK YOU
The Stand Down depended on volunteers who assisted before, during and after the event. Their responsibilities included preparing the grounds, moving and organizing supplies, assisting participating organizations and vendors, distributing food and clothing, welcoming and directing veterans and their families, maintaining the event areas, and helping with cleanup and breakdown.
Some volunteers contributed several hours while others worked throughout the weekend. For the Love of Our Veterans sincerely thanks everyone who contributed their time and effort to help make the 23rd Annual Compton Veterans Stand Down possible.
23 YEARS OF COMPTON STANDING WITH ITS VETERANS
For more than two decades, the Compton Veterans Stand Down has brought together government agencies, veteran organizations, healthcare providers, nonprofits, businesses, volunteers and other community partners in support of local and regional veterans.
Participating organizations, programs and available services have changed and expanded over the years, but the purpose of the Stand Down has remained consistent: bringing veterans and service providers together in one accessible location where assistance, information and personal connections can be established.
The 23rd Annual Compton Veterans Stand Down continued that tradition and demonstrated the value of maintaining strong working relationships among the organizations and individuals serving veterans throughout our region.
MOST IMPORTANTLY — TO OUR VETERANS
For the Love of Our Veterans extends its sincere thanks to every veteran who joined us during the 23rd Annual Compton Veterans Stand Down. Whether you came seeking assistance, accompanied a family member, connected with fellow veterans or simply spent some time with us, we were honored to have you there.
We also extend our gratitude to all veterans in our community and beyond for their service to our country. That gratitude must be reflected not only through recognition, but through continued efforts to help veterans obtain the benefits, services and support available to them.
The annual Stand Down is an important part of that effort, but our commitment to veterans continues throughout the year. For the Love of Our Veterans will continue connecting veterans with resources, strengthening partnerships with organizations that serve them, and supporting those who have served our country.
FOR THE LOVE OF OUR VETERANS
Honoring service. Connecting veterans with resources. Standing with those who served.
